Black metal is a genre that never really did it for me at first. I listened to the likes of Emperor, Mayhem, Immortal and Gorgoroth and couldn’t get into it. It wasn’t until discovering ‘Four Thrones,’ by Watain that something clicked inside me that made me appreciate and love black metal. I listened to the previously mentioned bands again and this time around I was won over. Through Watain I also discovered the great Bathory, a band that has become very important to me since. Getting the chance to ask a few questions to the serpent that is Erik Danielsson was a mind-blowing prospect to me. Having seen the Watain live ritual at Bloodstock in 2012, I was blown away not only by the ridiculous pyro, but by how actually terrifying they were. Managing to sneak a few questions in with Erik as he was preparing for the tour, we talked about the brilliant The Wild Hunt album, touring with Mayhem and Revenge, Bathory and the reaction in the US to Black Metal.
